Calgary to Banff Shuttle
Several operators run the Calgary–Banff corridor and they are not interchangeable. Here is what each costs, how they differ on schedule and luggage, and which one suits your arrival.

- 90 Minutes to Banff

There is no passenger train between Calgary and Banff. Rocky Mountaineer runs Vancouver to Banff as a two-day luxury trip from April to October, and VIA Rail serves Edmonton to Jasper — neither is transport from Calgary. So the honest list is short: a shared shuttle, a private transfer, or a rental car, about 90 minutes each way on Highway 1.

Four steps from the arrivals hall to your Banff hotel.
Book Before You Fly
Reserve online with free cancellation. Services fill in summer and over the ski season, and the last departure of the day is earlier than most people expect.
Meet at Arrivals
Shared services use a marked desk or curbside pickup at Calgary International; private transfers meet you inside with a name board.
Ninety Minutes West
Highway 1 out of Calgary, across the prairie and into the front ranges. The mountains appear about forty minutes in, and that is the part people photograph.
Hotel Drop-off
Most services drop at Banff hotels rather than a single depot, so you are not dragging luggage through town.

What Passengers Say
"It was a good trip and helpful for us moving from YYC airport to Banff. He drop us off in front of our hotel. Convenient shuttle experience"
"Our Filipino guide is professional, and capable driver. Made our trip very smooth."
"I arrived at the airport earlier than expected and the company let me on an hour early. The driver dropped me off outside my hostel. Really easy and would book again"
"Easy to find the shuttle pickup area; instructions were pretty clear. The driver arrived a little past 10am, but no worries. The drive was quick and the vehicle was spacious; they did not book full capacity, which made the trip relaxing as it was not crowded in the bus."
"Our trip from Calgary to Banff was fantastic! Jay our driver was early which was good on a cold day. He was very pleasant and helpful, loaded all our luggage for us. Jay put us at ease right away and pointed out interesting landmarks along our trip. We were also dropped off right outside our accommodation which was amazing as it is our first trip to Banff and we were tired after a nine hour flight. Thank you Jay you were Amazing. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️"

"It was a little longer than I expected because of all of the stops, but the driver dropped me off at my hotel, which was a little bit out of the way so it was a great overall experience."
"Great trip on a minibus. Driver dropped us at our hotel in Banff. Recommended"

Calgary to Banff — Frequently Asked Questions
Trains, timings, cost and what to do if you land late.
No. There is no scheduled passenger rail between Calgary and Banff. Rocky Mountaineer runs Vancouver to Banff as a two-day luxury trip from April to October, and VIA Rail serves Edmonton to Jasper — neither is transport from Calgary. Your options are a shared shuttle, a private transfer or a rental car.
About 90 minutes in good conditions, roughly 140 km west on the Trans-Canada Highway. Calgary rush hour, summer weekend traffic and winter weather all stretch that, sometimes considerably. Allow more than the map says if you are travelling between November and April.
Shared shuttles start from about $43 per person. Private transfers start from about $98 for the vehicle rather than per seat, which is why they become competitive at three or four passengers. A rental car adds fuel, a Parks Canada park pass and Banff parking on top of the daily rate.
In summer and over the ski season, yes — services sell out, and the last scheduled departure of the day is earlier than most people expect. Everything featured here has free cancellation up to 24 hours before, so booking early and adjusting later costs nothing.
Check the last scheduled departure before you rely on it. If you are arriving late evening, a private transfer runs to your schedule instead of a timetable, or you can overnight near the airport and travel in the morning. Driving an unfamiliar mountain highway in the dark after a long flight is the option to think hardest about.
Often not. Banff town is walkable and has local transit, and Moraine Lake is closed to private vehicles entirely, so a car does not get you there. A car is worth it if you want Johnston Canyon early, or are continuing to Jasper or Kananaskis. It is poor value if you are staying in town, where summer parking is genuinely difficult.
Usually yes, but declare them when you book. Shared vehicles have finite hold space and a seat does not implicitly include a ski bag. Allowances vary by operator, so read the listing rather than assuming the route has one standard. For a family with full winter kit, a private vehicle is usually simpler.
Some services continue to Canmore, Banff and Lake Louise on the same route, from about $57 — useful if Lake Louise is where you are sleeping, since it saves chaining two bookings. Moraine Lake is separate again and reachable only by shuttle or organised tour.
In winter, usually. Operators run this highway daily with appropriate vehicles and drivers who know it, which is a different proposition from a jet-lagged visitor in a rental after dark. In summer, with a group and plans beyond Banff town, a car makes more sense — as long as you have somewhere to park it.
